What is Reiki?

The word 'Reiki' comes from the Japanese words, Rei and Ki.  Rei means universal, present everywhere and Ki means life-force energy.  Throughout the world this life-force is referred to in different ways including Chi, Prana, Light, Spirit and Vital Force.

This life-force is the non-physical vitality that Reiki practitioners recognise as being innate in all living things and is also recognised in the martial arts, acupuncture and meditation.

The Reiki tradition was founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication.

It is not part of any religion or belief system.

Anyone can enjoy a Reiki treatment in the normal course of their life and it can be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatments.

What to expect

‚Äč

When you come for a Reiki treatment we will discuss any particular areas of concern you may have and a medical history will be taken to assess any areas of pain or stress that you may be experiencing.

The method of receiving Reiki is simple.  You remain clothed and lie down and relax. I then gently place my hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near your body.

There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas.

Everyone experiences Reiki differently, some people feel sensations of heat or tingling or seeing colours while others may experience an emotional response.  Some of the benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation and a greater sense of calm and peace.

Treatments available at The Garden Studio, Caversham, Reading and Chiswick W4.  Home visits are also available at an extra charge - please enquire.
